Default water leak from cabin air filter housing

2002 S80 2.9L. when driving in rain few drops water leaks from the housing of cabin air filter under the passenger side dash board. The cabin air filetr was wet and the bottom black cover of the filter housing was also wet. How to trace this leak ? where is the cabin air intake ? Is it between the wipers with a plastic grille? Do I have to check any clogged areas for this water leak ?

I believe the intake is in the wiper cowl area.
Make sure all of that is clean. Also does it still do it if you have it on recirc?

It only leaks when I drive in rain. Recir setting has no effect. Is it possible to remove the plastic grill between wipers to see any clogging under the grill if it is the air intake location for the cabin air flow. The top of the grill is pretty clean without any leaves. thanks.

That is hard to get out. Does your car have a sunroof?

Sorry for being late was out of town. Yes it has sun roof and I checked the roof drains and they are clear as I tested by pouring water in the drain channel on both sides.

HMM this really is a strange one.
This is not a common thing as well.
Is it the original windsheild?

Tech, please assist with this one. I can get as much as two inches of rain water in the same area. You would think that the leak would be obvious but from the inside it is impossible to find with removing the dashboard. The molding surrounding the wipers looks to be a booger to remove, but I'm convinced that in order to get to the problem it must come off. The windshield is original and the sunroof is not the source.

There are 2 drain pipes for the cowl

Make sure they are clear, you can get at them from under the car.

I realize this is an old thread but was the problem fixed? The same thing is happening to my 2004 S80.

I too am having this issue with my 2004 Volvo S80. I think the air inlet seal has disintegrated. P/N is 31250775 However, i cannot figure out how to get at it
