A Whole Mess of Electrical Problems
So, my 2003 Volvo S80 2.9 (non turbo) has been in the shop a total of 8 times in the last 5 months. Two times I had to get it towed as the care wouldn't start, and the rest of the time, I made to the dealer w/ multiple error messages displayed. "Anti-skid service required" and "engine system service" required are the two most common culprits. I have had the ECM replaced 3 times, the BCM once, and the SIM also has been replaced. I've had all of the software upgrades, too. The delightful guys at Volvo now tell me that they are not going to cover the repairs, even though my car is under warranty, and that I should take the car back to the original dealer where I got it (which I will do when I have time to drive 150 miles to get there).
When my car goes down, here's what happens:
It has always been in the morning, and it always happens when I start the car. I go to start it, and immediately, the Anti Skid warning light goes on and the car starts for a couple of seconds, and then dies. After that, it won't start at all. If I leave it for an hour or so, it will eventually start up reluctantly, but then the "Engine Service Req." light goes on. I have realized the last couple of times that this happened, that all of the warning lights will go away after awhile.
Here's the big clue, this almost exclusively happens when it rains. I'm going to take it back to the dealer, but I thought that I would ask some of you smart guys out there before doing that.
