Default 1998 Volvo s90 Serpentine Belt Help

I am a professional musician, trying to fix a car problem. My serpentine belt broke and was shredded. I ordered a new one. It is the correct size belt. I wound it on properly, of this I am 100% sure. The belt has some slack in it. I can not find where to tighten up the tension. I've looked everywhere by the pulleys and alternator. I need to know where to find the bolt to tighten the belt and what tool to use. I'm without a car for two days now. I need assistance here please!
Thank you.

Is the belt around the spring loaded tensioner?

Default S90 and 960 Serpentine Belt Option 2

There are 2 belt lengths for the 960 serpentine belts. Not sure why but there is. The belt you have on is wrong. Not sure why Volvo didn NOT put a sticker under the hood to show people how it goes on like other cars do.

It should be on like this:

Here is a picture of how the long serpentine belt goes on and the old plumbing plug I use to use to install it.

I do have several of the new tools available if anyone wants one.

It went on fine once I saw your diagram for the longer belt and was able to adjust the tension too. Nice to be up and running again!! Thanks!

Now for the important questions for everyone... How did the belt break? Have you been checking oil and things under the hood monthly to see what condition the belt was in?

Make sure you check it in a day or so to see if the new belt is somehow getting damaged. If you have a bad roller or something else binding or seizing up it will destroy the new belt as well.

What is going on with the "routine maintenance items"? When was the last time the timing belt was replaced? It should be replaced every 70,000 miles. Do you hear any squealing when you start the car first thing in the morning?

The diagram included with the reply above shows the correct routing for S90's and (probably late 960s). However, they never fixed the diagram in the owner's manuals which shows an earlier routing and would use a shorter length belt.
