Default 2020 S90 40K service

Took my S90 in for the 40K service. Said they changed cabin and engine filter, changed engine oil a filter and made multi-point checks = $864 Is this normal, must be some very nice filters?
Thank you,
Jim

If one just looks at the cost for replacement items, then the cost seems high. However, there is an inspection component to their 40K service. It's designed to look for things that may be an unnoticed issue and/or could be a problem in the near future. It's called "preventive maintenance". Sometimes addressing a minor issue, before it becomes worse, may be better than waiting for something to fail, and then incurring a more costly repair. I'm not here to defend dealer hourly rates, but one should keep in-mind that the people who work their have a right to a livable wage and benefits, plus the dealership is a for-profit enterprise that needs to stay in business if it has any hope of keeping people employed. IMO, owning a S90, if one choses to have it maintained by the dealership, comes with its own costs for service.

PS: Hourly rates at dealerships typically start near $200/hour and increases in correspondence with the "luxury" reputation of the car brand.

PPS: Try owning and maintaining a Mercedes Benz. When I bought my factory ordered 2020 V90 Inscription T6 estate wagon in 2020 I also considered the purchase of a 2020 MB E450 estate wagon. The E450 did not come with the first 3 years of free service. Plus, MB vehicles alternate between "A" and "B" services, which are both costly.

Thank you for your response. Having owned 9 MB's ranging from the 240D, 300D, 300SD, E350, (3) SL500, S430 and S550 I am fully aware of the MB maintenance pain. I drove 3 different Volvos with the company I worked for and they were great cars, so it was an easy move when the new S550 sticker climbed pass $140,000.

LOL! Having owned so many MBs b4, I’m surprised that you even noticed the 40K dealer service charge. IMO, the overall cost to maintain a Volvo is much cheaper than a MB.

I believe that you may have misunderstood my comment on a 40K Volvo service. I did look back at a 40k service at the local MB dealer and it was $1068 and that vehicle had an 8 cyl engine, so in actual comparison they were very comparable. FYI I scrutinize any charge!
