Default Hey y'all. New S90 owner

Hey guys,

Just got a stupid good deal on a S90 - a foreign doctor had purchased it while here on a fellowship. He was planning on selling it to a friend, but that fell through at the last minute. I ended up picking it up for scrap value.

'98, dark blue metallic over grey interior; looks like half leather, half suede. All power options (of course), windows and sunroof operational, driver's seat operational. AC too. Only things non-functional so far are the parking brake, and the motors on the p/seat are lazy.

200k kilometres (125k miles) on the clock; no service history. Engine runs beautifully; exhaust looks ok but is starting to sound a *little* throaty.

Assuming I'm not able to get any record of the most recent service; I'll do oil & filters now, and the t-belt, w-pump and assorted parts in spring, when it's nicer out. Does that make sense? Anything else I should be looking at first? Flame trap? (240 guy here, don't know much about these 'newer' ones!)

Beautiful blue and great deal too. I'm on my third S90, and one of the items that I've found to replace are the sway bar links. Of course your typical wear items like struts, shocks, brakes, fuel filter, spark plugs and cracked vacuum hoses. On my S90 with 150,000 miles I noticed my front brake lines were cracked, so I'm replacing them.

Beautiful car. I purchased a 97 S90 yesterday with only 105K on it. Needs lower control arm bushings and oil cooler lines (hoses are swollen and oil soaked). Supposedly the Timing Belt was changed at 70K, but no proof so I'm having that done now.

Congratulations. Oil Cooler Lines-- those lines carry coolant, and not oil. 5/8" quality coolant's rubber hoses from any Parts Store work great with new clamps.

Congrats on the 960/S90's. That is the only car I have ever missed. I think it's the best car Volvo ever made.

Timing belt is easy to do:

Default Oil Cooler Lines

The coolant lines to the oil cooler are probably swollen because there is oil leaking through one of the seals that damages the rubber. The dealer "repaired" an oil leak there (in warranty) on our first S90 by basically smearing RTV on everything. I don't know where the idiots pick this up, but that is NEVER a long term fix. After the leak started again, I purchased the 3 Volvo seals, cleaned everything and put it back together with only a slight bit of oil on the seals with no leak later observed. In my other posts I've described my issues with a burned valve that resulting in getting a "new" S90 and making one good car out of parts from both. The "new" S90 had the same oil leak at the cooler, again signs of RTV, damaged coolant hoses (due to oil) and I did the same fix. The seals are 2 O-rings and one square section seal, cost is around $30 from a dealer. After fixing the oil leaks, I did not have any further issues with the coolant hoses.
