Default 97 S90 aftermarket parts

I'm training at UTI in AZ, and want to customize my S90 as I go along. I'm in the very beginning stages of planning for it, and was wondering if any of you guys could recommend some companies/websites which offer aftermarket parts. I've tried Google, but haven't really found anything helpful (besides IPD, which doesn't seem to have any performance parts for this car).

Are there some things which make the S90 unfriendly for customizing? Or is it really just that rare of a car?

I'm gonna get a friend to take a peek at the engine and clean it up a bit, maybe machine some angles on the valve stems, etc. After that, I'm gonna be keeping my eye out for performance and suspension upgrades and really whatever else I can get my hands into.

Thanks,
Kevin

I just noticed the resources thread - looks like a great place to start.

I figured as much . So, basically (forgive me, I'm new to this), it's gonna be a bit like a jigsaw puzzle, finding parts which were meant for other cars, but that meet my car's specs, then hoping they snap together? That oughta prove to be fun.

I hate to be the bearer of this news but the S90 and 960's were Volvo's Flagship Luxary cars that were designed to compete with MB, big BMW's, Lexus, etc for the office executives. They really have no after market for mods, parts, etc. The people that purchased these cars liked the smooth ride, had $$$ to have the dealer service and repair them and are pretty much what you have.

If you want a car to tinker with you need to get a sporty model TURBO car like the 850, S70, etc.

Eek. Well, I kind of figured that.

At the same time, though, the stage III turbo used by IPd is a Mitsubishi turbo. Granted, it's replacing a turbo that was already there, but the original didn't give that much extra hp, and I'm assuming was a Volvo turbo.

So, would it be stretching things to say that I could track down a "workable" turbo, for example, and install it with a little craftiness? (And so on with other parts, if I have the patience.

Thanks.

You can do anything, but that will take you out of the TINKERING state and move you into the MAJOR MODIFICATION mode. I was watching some 960 hot rod video's on www.YouTube.com. They are insane. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4J7yfPZXV-o

Nice shameless plug...

The 960/S90 computers don't take kindly to any tinkering with the engine, if you plan to do anything, probably think megasquirt as one of the first mods.

A lot of parts for the 850 engine will fit.

Also, the twin turbo stuff off an S80 would be cool. And a manual tranny off a 700, but gotta score a bell housing from a euro model.

Check the 850 section or the owners manual.
