Default Check engine light

Daughter left gas cap loose now I have a CEL. Is there a proceedure to reset this code myself or will a shop have to do it???

A shop will have to do it.
The light will eventually go off but the code will still be stored.

If and when the code is cleared will the OBDII "ready" settings be lost as well?
Also , if OBDII settings are cleared will several months of routine driving reset them? On two occasions I needed to change the battery approx 6 weeks before emissions inspection and failed due to OBDII. Dealer cost to reset this is high.

When the light is set the readiness is lost.
But once the code is cleared it should be reset shortly after.
The routine driving should get it to ready in a pretty short time.

Sometimes they can be a pain to get back to ready.
