Installing pulleys on cams
I have a 98 s90 with the 24 valve I6. Had to pull the head to be resurfaced and reinstalled.well when we pulled the head off we also removed the pulleys/sprockets from the cams. These sprockets have three elongated holes, for fine tuning of the timing. But the biggest problem is that i have a 1 in 3 chance of putting the sprockets in the same position that they came off. Does anyone have any insight as to how they should go on the cams? I believe this to be an interference motor and would like to not have to do valves immediately following this project.
You have to use the alignment tool that attaches to the rear of the camshafts to hold them in the correct position. I do not recommend that you try to "eyeball" this as there is too much variation trying to do it another way.
Here is the tool.
