Default Intermittent running hot and A/C stops working

Hello

I have a 98 that runs good most of the time and the a/c is cold. Occasionally the temp guage starts to go up suddenly and the a/c will start blowing hot air. After stopping and letting it cool, it works again and runs cool. Some days it doesnt happen at all. I believe everything in the cooling system was recently replaced. Could the a/c compressor be locking up? What would explain the blowing hot air?

Thanks
Adam

it could be going out on hi over load switch ,who charged the system ? your getting hot air from the compresor shutting off . if the compressor locked the belt would burn off the pullys and snap or smoke. try dumping some freon out

When you say temp guage, you are talking about the engine coolant temp? As if it's not straight up? If that's the case, when was the last time the thermostat was replaced?

I'll check the Freon level. I'll have to ask my friend if she had the thermostat replaced when the work on the cooling system was done.

Thanks
