Hi All

First post here.

My S40 2.4 Auto has an issue in that the AC will stop cooling the car, particularly on hot days when its most needed. It comes on for short periods and then it works 100% but for some reason it does not work all the time.

The fans are running, air comes out the vents but its not cool. Its as if something prevents the AC compressor from running clutching in.

Any suggestions?

 

Try this. It worked for my 2005 T5. Did not have to remove the compressor either.

Do you think its the clutch even though the AC works well (perfect) in cooler weather?

 

Yes. You describe the classic symptoms. When the compressor is working the hardest it suddenly stops and you get warm air. When it cools a tiny bit it starts working again. The deshimming procedure simply removes one small shim (of 3 total) which moves the clutch closer to the compressor.

 

Thanks Hudini, I will try this. Can always put it back if no improvement. Also, its a no-cost exercise.
