Default love the s90 but heard its a mechanical nightmare

I drive a 92 940 it has been a fantastic car. I have had it for many years and have found it to be easy to repair. Looking to update, really love the s90 but have been told by a mechanic its a poor choice and very expensive for parts and not a do it yourselfer. Any feedback would be appreciated. Thanks

They are pretty decent cars.

I purchased a 960 after I let my 740 GLE go and I had NO PROBLEMS at all. I liked the car so much that I purchased another one just like it after I almost rolled it on the freeway in rush hour traffic. (I was going down the freeway on 2 wheels for about 150 yards). I still have the '97 960 and it is the BIG BROTHER to the 700 and 940 cars. The car is SMOOTH in every way. Has power to get up and go, and is quiet. Mine gets around 21 MPG and has had no service issues. I put about 30,000 miles on it in the past 15 months.
