Default PO340 Cam Position Sensor Malfuntion - S90

Hello Out There

I'm a new member and, of course, have a question for all of you savvy guys out there.

I know that the sensor is a hall effect device that senses the camshaft position for the ecu and I'd like to troubleshoot this thing myself as my car will not pass emissions until I get rid of the code. I've already reset the ecu once and the code popped right back up.

I did read on an old thread (from 2005) that many times wiring problems can cause this error code. Makes sense as a hall effect device is pretty rugged.

So......... where do I find the sensor on the engine so I can take a look at it. I do have a professional scanner that I can read the OBDII codes with.

Any help would be appreciated.

The Cam sensor is located on the back of the head on the exhaust cam. The plugs are known to fall apart causing the issues they have.

Thanks for the information. I did find the sensor and, indeed, the plug is falling apart. Checked the plug from the firewall to the sensor plug and 2 pins read 11.89 vdc and the 3rd is ground. Sprayed both with some contact cleaner to see if that would help. If I have to remove the sensor, is there anything special I need to do or watch for, ie;
1. install position relative to the camshaft
2. Does the sensor have an oil seal (since it's located at the camshaft) that should
be looked at and/or serviced?
3. Any best vendors for a new one - maybe sponsors of this bb?

Thanks for your quick response.

1. Put it back on like you took it off the wire goes down.
2.There is a seal under the sensor and behind the other part screwed to the cam.
3.Use a Bosch one.
