Default Removing center console for parking brake adjustment.

Alright so the headache continues, I finally got the radio and computer issues fixed and everything working so I could get it inspected - now the freakin parking brake isn't adjusted right. I went about trying to find an adjustment point under the car and figured that it had to be under the center console.

I took the two bolts out of the center console that are in the CD/cupholder/armrest and removed the rear passenger ashtray bulb, but the console won't come out. What else am I missing?

My parking brake isn't tight either. Let me see if I can find a link to the center console removal...

This will show you how to get the center piece out near the shifter & e-brake handle, items 1-6:

This thread has other instructions for removing the center console:

Thanks man. I took nearly everything apart from the dash to see two hidden bolts holding the console it near the front.

LOL. They hide screws in the strangest places. Don't drop those screws, you may never see them again.

Oh man, I almost lost them in the carpet twice! It was ridiculous.

Default Quicker Fix

You don't have to remove the center console to get at the parking brake adjusted. Just carefully remove the little pastic panel at the back of the console and the big plastic nut is the adjustment.

I put together this video to show people how to pull the center console of the Volvo 850. I pulled mine to get to the bulb at my shifter.

My reply in Oct 2012 concerns the parking brake for late 960 / S90 models, since the thread was on the S90 forum. The rest of the material in this thread seems misplaced, it refers to the FWD models.

Ooops, not sure how I put my Video in the 850 section. I'll have to fix that when I get near a real computer.

Default Parking brake handle replacement

I got a tan leather wrapped parking brake handle out of an 850R in my junkyard and don't know how to install it in my car. Removal was easy in the 850R just remove the the center console and undo 3 bolts and unplug the warning light switch and then the cables came off very easily. When I tried to do it in my car I followed the same procedure as before except I couldn't get the cables off. I'm going to try loosening the adjustment bolt and see what that does but I don't know how to properly reattach the cables to the new handle. Also I don't know if it is related but I noticed after attempting to remove my old handle the SRS light came on the dash and hasn't gone away. I think I might need to check the connections from the dash to the center console and the wire for the warning light for the parking brake. Also my center console creaks like mad if there is any movement and it annoys the hell out of me, any tips? Thanks
