S90 98 model- slightly sluggish on takeoff

hi all
Just bought a beautifully well kept s90 and its slightly sluggish when you put your foot flat but good after that... anyone know if this is just the nature of the beast??

98 had a pair of non turbo that were a bit anemic. what engine do you have?
