2000 V40 cranks, but won't fire
I have a 2000 V40 that won't start. It is getting plenty of fuel. I have changed the plugs, wires, both coil packs, cam sensor, and fuel pressure regulator all to no avail. The car cranks, but won't fire. The computer is not throwing any codes. HELP!!!!!!!!

the timing belt is OK and I am getting spark. A little more back story. This all started when the car's temperature gage show the car was overheating. I first changed the thermostat then the temp. sensor and it ran for a few days. then this issue arose . A friend of mine bought a code reader and it was throwing a P0301 which is a cylinder 1 misfire. I purchased a coil pack for cylider 4 and we changed the spark plugs and wire at that time. The car ran for a week and I am now having the same issue. Through reading forums, etc. I read that there could be a few other reasons, so I changed the cam sensor...nothing and the fuel pressure regulator...nothing. Oh, I changed the coil pack on cylider 3 as well. That is where I currently sit; dead in the water
Thanks for your response any other thoughts would be appreciated.

Sounds like you are having as much trouble as me. Mine is a continuous P0015 exhaust camshaft over retarded, but the car runs as well as it ever has. Tried all the ideas in these forums but still no change. Mine runs but is out of inspection so I roll the dice every time I drive it. Wish I could be of more help. If I hear anything, Ill send it your way.

This may not apply because I didn't read your last post about not having spark in #1 cylinder until after I wrote the following: I have a 2000 S40 that had a similar problem. After a couple of months of trouble shooting and reading various codes - I replaced Both the thermostat And the Temperature sensor (directly under the thermostat) with parts from the Volvo dealer. I changed antifreeze in the process of installing OEM equivalent parts. They would last weeks to maybe a month before failing.
The Volvo Dealer parts have been working for 2 years now. A local mechanic who specializes in Volvo told me about the "Volvo Dealer" parts difference for thermostats and temperature sensors. I didn't believe him at FIRST - based on my experience he is right. I replaced 2 thermostats and 2 temperature sensors, purchased online as OEM equivalent - before I listened to his advice.

Sorry it took so long to respond.
Your question is one with no easy answer. Could be anything from moisture (cracks in wire insulation), to worn coil packs, to improperly gaped spark plugs, the list goes on and on. Wish I could be of more help, but I would suggest getting someone with a little more knowledge than me to take a look at it.
