2000 Volvo V40 Driver Side-Mirror
Hello there, I am a new member of this forum. It has now been about half a year since I started driving, and I've broken my Driver Side-Mirror. This one is kind of my fault. The area I live in has been doing road work for a long time. Every night they set up orange cones to the left of the farthest left lane. I kind of get frustrated because they set the cones to close to the lane where cars go by. I hate it how they let the base come into the left lane, but tonight I hit one. I didn't cross the line, because if I did then the bumps on the side would have vibrated the car. I'm guessing that cone was just a little far too into the driving lane, and I was too close to the side. Well I hit it..going nearly 70..and my side-mirror glass shattered, the back piece flew off, and the other plastic is broken. I've bought a used replacement part already.
It kind of sucks that this happened when my family is in their worst financial situation. Paying for college, buying a $300 present for my younger brother. My grandmother is sick so we sent $500 over, and I have to pay $200 for my architecture supplies. We're kind of contemplating if we want to get a professional to install the mirror or not. I found some sort of description or guide on how to switch, remove the side view mirror on e-how.

Is this the correct way to remove it and install. Do we have to do any soldering with the side-view mirror as its controlled by an interior switch, and it has the heating capabilities also.
If this guide is wrong, then does someone know how to do it correctly or no where to find a guide for it?
Sorry for giving an unnecessary life story.
Hope someone can help.
