2001 V40 check engine
The check engine light came on last week. Autozone checked it and it read, Temp Too Low. What does this mean and how can I fix it w/o a dealer as I can not afford their prices now?
There is usually only one reason for temp being too low -- a bad thermostat. Your cooling fan could be running all the time, too, which indicates a sensor problem there. Unfortunately, I can't tell you how to remove and replace the thermostat. They are designed to open at a certain temp and close at a certain (much lower) temp. I suspect there's a thread somewhere here that will tell you. Its a relatively cheap repair -- cost of the thermostat and a new gasket. ??? re hours of labor as I don't know where Volvo hides its thermostats.
Autozone has them for $10 (I think they include a gasket, but if not it is probably not much more). Should be pretty easy to replace--my information says:
1) Remove the throttle body (TB) cover.
2) Remove the cover over the fuel rail.
3) Remove the upper timing cover.
4) Remove the thermostat housing cover (Torx 40 screws).
5) Lift out the thermostat and the gasket.
If that's the cause of the problem, this should be a pretty easy and cheap fix!
