Hello,
I am new to the Volvo world just bought my very first V40. And it is a good family car. The only thing with my vehicle is the STRONG RATTLING NOISE AND VIBRATION on lover gear when driving in the city's traffic. The noise appears to be from underneath of the car and it is shaking all the body so the pasengers can tell too. When i start the car everything is fine but once the engine is warmed up when idling or slow motion it goes really loud and shaking but it does not look that this is just an engine sound. When open a hood the engine sounds ok still. It disappears at some point when I drive for a while but comes back whenever i have to slow down enough and stop for lights etc. City drive is driving me crazy. Any ideas? Please help to get an idea what it can be as it was checked by volvo mechnic and he didn't say anything but the problem is there. It is 2001 V40 1.9 Turbo automatic transmision 114000 km. Thank you.

 

Most likely it is bad engine mounts.
Look at the one on the right side of the car and the 2 under the engine.
In last resort check the transmission mount.

Search E-bay for a Program Called VADIS.

That is the program the Dealer uses.
It will pretty much tell you anything you need to know.
