Does anybody knows any reputable mechanic in NJ? My local Volvo stealership wants 1500 to change cvvt hub and reset timing. Please, help!

Labor is about 5.5 hours. I would ask why it's so high.

Hi..I agree. I still haven't bit the bullet to fix mine, but my mechanic said it would 800-900 to fix. The actual hub is about 200, he said and 6 /7 hours of labor. They said they could even make it shorter if they were able to lock the timing belt in place. I live in MA, but maybe check yelp for a better mechanic.

7 hours is a ripoff. Sounds like he his charging more than the rate in the standard times guide just because he is not familiar with the car.

Maybe he is including replacing the cam and crank seals in his pricing?

If the engine is apart enough to replace the CVVT hub, the cam seals shouldn't run any extra labor. Maybe an extra .1 each. They are overcharging on labor, plain and simple. And they don't know what they are doing, because the cams have to be locked.

Which brings me down to my original question: does anybody know any diligent Volvo mechanic in NYC area. I am willing to travel.
