Exclamation Engine Smoke After Spark Plug Change.

Kinda new to car repair and just bought a 2000 Volvo V40 161K, I was under the impression that any 5/8th spark plugs would work on my volvo, wrong i now find out, i bought bosch platinum +2 (two spark gaps). I replaced cylinder 1 and 2 as cylinder 1 was misfiring and the old plug looks like its been in the car for its whole life. Once done I turn on the car (hisatated to start) and quickly went to the hood to make sure noting goes wrong, i see a cloud of smoke and oil+gas smell coming from the engine block, turned off the car so fast.

Put my old plugs back in and turned the car back on and no smoke or smell.

So what happened and will my car be ok (was only on for tops 5 seconds)?

Do yourself a favour and buy volvo OEM plugs. The 1999-2004 V40 series is notorious for being very picky about plugs.
