Key duplication/fob replacement process
I purchased a 2000 Volvo V40 this past week. When I bought it, I was given the ignition key, but no key fob. I would like to duplicate the key in case my forgetful self misplaces the original. So, my questions are:
1. Do I need to get the key duplicated at a Volvo dealership? I know that there is a special "code" that is programmed into the ignition key, but I don't know how that fits into the duplication process.
2. Could I also order a replacement key fob from a Volvo dealership? Would it have to be programmed with a code, like the key?
3. Approximately how much would duplicating the key and replacing the fob cost?
I know these are fairly simple questions, but I'm very new to Volvos and cars in general, so any input is appreciated!
