Default Key duplication/fob replacement process

I purchased a 2000 Volvo V40 this past week. When I bought it, I was given the ignition key, but no key fob. I would like to duplicate the key in case my forgetful self misplaces the original. So, my questions are:

1. Do I need to get the key duplicated at a Volvo dealership? I know that there is a special "code" that is programmed into the ignition key, but I don't know how that fits into the duplication process.

2. Could I also order a replacement key fob from a Volvo dealership? Would it have to be programmed with a code, like the key?

3. Approximately how much would duplicating the key and replacing the fob cost?

I know these are fairly simple questions, but I'm very new to Volvos and cars in general, so any input is appreciated!

You gotta take it to the dealer. The key and remote are programmed to the car with software. Prices vary, so you would be best to call your local dealers.
