oil dipstick question
Hello,
about 2 or 3 months ago i had to have my oil pan replaced. today i decided to check my oil for no other reason than to see where i was with it. to my surprise according to the dipstick my car has no oil in it. now its been running great, no indicator lights, no noticeable leaks anywhere. I curious if the shop replaced the dipstick with something other than what should be there and was hoping someone here can send me the correct length of the dipstick. 2004 V40 1.9L 4 Cyl
any help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

My first thought is the shop didn't properly fill the pan. My advise to start: Drain the oil and measure how much comes out, then fill using the amount from the owners manual ie 5.7 Quart is the capacity with filter - but if you leave the filter, start with 5 quarts then start up and measure again. usually the filter change adds about half a quart or so. 5 fresh quarts should put you on the dipstick.
sir, first let me thank you for your reply. after some looking around on this forum and other internet sites like youtube and googling i found where the tube for the dipstick should mount down on the block. i went out and had a look and mine is mounted way up almost to the latch for the hood. i took a dipstick from my wives toyota and measured it against mine. i found hers to be approx. 2 - 2.5 inches longer, once i put hers into my tube low and behold theres the oil. this weekend im going to go get the oil changed and cant wait to see if they notice the difference hahaha. thank you again for your help
you cant compare the dipsticks between two totally different vehicles. of course it will read different if you put a longer one in. Its pretty hard to mount the dipstick tube wrong on these volvos..
