Default puzzling electric/brake problems

I have a 1997 v40. The problems I have occur at seemingly random moments when the car is running (stationary or moving).
The symptoms are: headlights increase in brightness, windows roll up/down faster (when I operate them), wipers increase speed (when on), radio shuts off (if playing), the engine makes a slightly different sound, and the car losses some engine power (in the torque/acceleration sense).
The above mentioned symptoms will last for a certain period (the episodes vary in duration) and they will go away. This can occur several times during a trip.
Another thing that always occurs during such an episode is that the ABS and the general brake system dash panel warning lights illuminate.
I have a battery that is only a couple of months old.
I am suspecting the voltage regulator, but am not certain. What this would have in connection with the brake signals is anathema to me.
I hope someone here can give me some advice on how to fix my car.
