Replacing speakers
Hi, I have a 2002 V40 and have had to replace the dash speakers twice since I bought the car a few months ago (and, no, I don't listen to the stereo that LOUD!). I don't know if this is a defect (they sure sound good!) but want to know if it would be better to get some aftermarket ones, possibly even better than stock? Any ideas?
how did the speakers fail? usually its either the spider wires (mechanical) or the cone surrounds tear. If its the surrounds, you can find a repair kit online that glue on (I did this on my Dahlquist home speakers and it worked great). If you go for after market, there's a range of quality brands - Infinity, Polk etc. Key will be to match the impendance and bolt pattern (some car speakers are glued into a plastic surround so replacing with aftermarket may take some jerry-rigging) I believe the S/v40s set up is 4 ohm in the dash and 8 ohms in the door/rear deck but best to look for a label on the old ones and match to that. Also pay attention to the connectors for polarity. Usually there's a thin&thick post or a + marking on the speaker. You can use a good web site like Crutchfield.com to find suggestions for models that fit.
