Default SRS Code 017d, help?

TL;DR - SRS Light always on, code 017d, can't find faulty cables or connectors. Help?

I have just acquired a v40 2004, 1.6L to look at before my buddy who owns it, scraps it (I'll buy it from him if I can fix this cheaply enough). As the title suggests I have an srs problem. My buddy tells me the airbag light came on randomly a couple of months ago, without being in any crashes or anything, so I had it diagnosed with a couple of different tools. Most of the tools said they couldn't communicate with the airbag module, but the most advanced one gave me an error code, SRS-017d.

After searching about this, I've checked the cables under both front seats, behind the wheel, the connectors to the module in the middle of the seats, and both the cables and connectors look fine to me. Also sprayed them with a contact cleaner spray. No help.

The seat belt reminder light and sound also work; when the belt is disconnected, it blinks with a red light indicating belts above the front mirror and makes a little blinking noise. Both are disabled once I plug in the seatbelt (only for driver side). No light or sound is on while driver is connected, even if there's someone in the passenger seat. Should there be? Does this have anything to do with it?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I did not. I posted this exact post on another forum here, and got a few replies - but even after trying with a certified workshop version of Volvo Vida DiCE and it telling me (and the workshop mechanic) that it didn't find any fault codes, and him telling me he couldn't help - I completely gave up and scrapped the car. No one had a clue how to fix it, and I needed that light fixed to get the car EU approved and registered..
