V40 intermittent starting problem
We have a 2004 V40, and recently we've had some trouble starting it. Last week when we were getting ready to go in the morning, the car wouldn't start. The starter motor was turning over, but unless you gave it gas it wouldn't start, and once you let off the gas it died. We tried several times to start it, put more gas in it (it was close to, but not empty), no joy. We had it towed to the volvo dealership, where it started up just fine for them. They checked the computer and it said there was a "general ignition failure" or somesuch, they tried to trace down the problem and said that the air valve was worn, but working. They also identified one other likely suspect, but since they were both working at the time they couldn't replace either under the extended warranty. $100 of car rental fees, $100 tow, and $110 diagnostic fee later we get our car back, with nothing done to it. This morning it exhibited the same problem, but we eventually got it to start. We dropped it off at a different shop today (who said he won't charge us anything if he doesn't fix anything) but are once again paying for a rental car *grumble*.
Any idea what might be going wrong? If it would just break hard I'd be happy since the extended warranty would pay for it, but this "works for them, but not for me" business is getting irritating.
thanks,
Rick

Let me make sure this is somewhat right when it acts up it will still run but not idle?
If so the induction hose has a valve just before the turbo that goes bad. The entire hose needs to be replaced though.
