Default V40 Overheating Issues

Hi All,
I am new at this forum. I have a Volvo V40 D2 1.6 diesel, year 2025, and after 5 months it started overheating. I have red plenty of stories on different forums, but I never came across with the result or finding out what the problem was.

On mine, it looks like the head gasket or the block is not cracked.
I changed thermostat, changed the water pump, changed EGR cooler flushed the system. EGR cooler had a tiny hole causing creating air bubles in the system.

I think there still could be something blocked or an air lock is still in the system. Does somebody know what is the best way to get air out of the system once and forever?
Also, I have red about a recall where Volvo fitted a by-pass in V40s (year 2015) from radiator to an expansion tank. Did somebody have it done? If yes, can you please share what was done on the car?

Thanks a lot,
Andy

Hi,
I'm not sure if changing the headgasket will change your situation. If yes, well done.

If the overheating will still stay, I would suggest to try the same what I did.

First I found out, there is a place in the thermostat plastic housing, where air can be trapped. I think it could be overcomed if you would bleed the system with a vacuum pump. I didn't have such opportunity, so I by-passed the radiator with an additional hose from bleeder to the header tank. In the same time I took the thermostat out. Everything went well, a few weeks later I put the thermostat back in the housing and works well since, for about 10000 miles so far.

Would be interesting to hear how you got on, and if this helped you..

Hi,

This worked for me. I bought a new cap for the expansion tank. When I was waiting for that to be delivered I took the tank off which (obviously) meant there wasn't much water in the engine. I then started her up and ran it for 20 ish seconds, left it alone until the next day when the cap arrived, put the tank back on, filled antifreeze and water and it hasn't given me one bit of bother since. That was over a month ago.
