Default Volvo V40 (2017) – Window & Mirror Controls Not Working After Door Replacement

Hello everyone,

I’m hoping for some advice before I resort to replacing the door internals on my partner’s 2017 Volvo V40.

Following an unfortunate incident with a motorbike, the driver's door was severely damaged—sliced open like a tin can—and the glass was completely shattered. I managed to source a replacement door, complete with glass and all internals, which has been installed and aligned perfectly.

While the door is receiving power, the switch panel is unresponsive when operating the windows or side mirrors. However:
  • The side mirrors automatically close when locking the car.
  • The window functions via the key fob (lowering all windows at once, and then closing all windows).
To troubleshoot, I connected the old internals from the damaged door directly to the car’s wiring loom, and everything worked as expected using both the old door card and the replacement door card. This suggests that:
  • The motors and power supply are functioning correctly on replacement door.
  • The issue is not with the switch panels.
I suspect there could be an issue with the loom in the replacement door, but I’m not certain. I also tried swapping the door module, but this made no difference.

Before proceeding with replacing all the internals, I’d really appreciate any suggestions on alternative troubleshooting steps. If replacement is necessary, I’d also welcome any advice on the best method to remove the internals while keeping the glass intact as I cant see any access to how the glass is mounted.

Any thoughts on this would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
Sam
