Unhappy Volvo V40 engine failure

Hello forum,

Would like to share my story in hopes of you giving me some advice.

We purchased our beloved Volvo V40 2.0 D3 150hp 2014 back in 2016 with only 70k Km on board. We took really special care of it since then.

Then one weekend we decided to go on a city break, to a cabin in the woods near the city. Long story short we took a wrong turn as we were using Waze to get around and ended up on a logging road and hit the lower part of the car.
The morning after our arrival I checked the oil pressure (as the digital oil level check works only when engine is cold) and the oil pressure was perfect.
The following morning, the day of our departure upon leaving the yard where we were located an error came up saying Engine system - service required. No oil level warning, nothing. Then 5km into the trip of 100 we were about to do the car stopped completely and was leaking a little oil. Called for AAA and took it to the authorised dealership in town to get it fixed. Apparently the oil bath, engine shield and turbo connector have been broken - 1,000 Euro to get it fixed. They were unable to test if the engine has suffered any damage as they could not put oil in it.

So after fixing the oil bath and filling it with oil turns out the engine has seized and that is why it stopped - fixing it at the dealership will probably cost us around 5,000 Euros to change parts or there is the preferred option of spending 4,000 to get a second hand engine and installing it. We will probably fix it and get rid of it as I dont want to see it ever again. Got it for 13k, fixed it for 1k, engine fix will cost 4k and we will probably sell it for 8k all in all losing about 50% of it's original purchase value over 3 years only because of a stupid oil level sensor.

My question to you guys is - how is it possible on a 2014 Volvo for the engine to seize like that, no oil level warning, nothing? I have to say I am heart broken as I loved that car.

Drive safe,

Alex

I have bolded the bit in which it is possible.

Unfortunately with any car, they are supposed to be driven in a certain manner, hitting the bottom of the car probably messed with some stuff and then it didnt take long to break.
