Volvo V40 Speedometer Inaccurate
Hi folks,
I've just recently bought a Volvo V40 (1997 UK Edition) and I've noticed that the speedometer doesn't appear to show an accurate reading.
The needle moves relative to how fast I'm going i.e. If I'm not moving it's at 0 and moves around relative to the speed. However, I'm pretty sure that it's showing 20 MPH when in actual fact I'm doing around 30MPH.
I've yet to confirm this with some further tests and to check that it's not just me that's going mad. Assuming I'm correct and it's not accurate - where should I look to try and rectify this?
I'm aware that it's either driven by a cable or an electronic sensor. If it's the former then it may have lost tension and need replacing or just a good clean. If it's the latter then perhaps I need to find and replace the sensor?
Either way - a pointer in the right direction including where to look under the bonnet would be much appreciated.
Cheers,
Jason
