VVT control valve defective
Hi folks
I am getting an error message on my V40, with the ECM stating my VVT control valve could be defective.
After i get the oil changed, and feeds checked what would it cost to actually get the control valve changed i am told this is very expensive due to it being behind the cambelt.......Just wondering if it is really worth getting fixed?
Thanks
Steve

Some say that driving with a broken VVT gear is not the end of the world and that only your fuel consumption will be affected (by maybe 2MPG for highway driving). So, urgent, no, should get fixed eventually, likely yes as it may start to leak and if it does it will leak on the timing belt which could mean belt slippage and a busted engine.
Ideally you would get it done at the same time as your timing belt since the same labour is involved.
In addition, if you don't get it fixed, you likely will be stuck with a CEL eventually which will mean not passing your safety or ministry check or emissions check or other.
In the grand scheme of things it's not that expensive. The VVT gear is $180 from Tasca and the labour is 3-4 hours I believe.

To be clear a valve issue would be different than a vvt gear issue. I was referring to the variable valve timing gear that is mounted at the end of the cam on the exhaust side.
