Defective Windshield? 06 S60
I was hosing off my wife's 2006 S60 with a garden hose (no nozzle, low pressure) when the windshield cracked in the middle. We live in Florida and it was very hot outside. I took the car to the dealership where we purchased it, after being told it would be covered under warranty. After driving the 100 miles there and dropping it off they called me 2 hours later and said I would have to file an insurance claim. the car has 17000 miles. I know I can file a claim, but wanted to get a factory windshield. Has Anyone else had a similar problem?

RE: Defective Windshield? 06 S60
I've seen it on several cars, so it isn't a Volvo exclusive. Actually, even my boss' S80 just had this happen to it also. In any case, it'll happen whenever a huge temperature differential occurs such as when the cold water hits the windshield. Most car washes make up for this by heating their water year round so that they do not become liable for windshields :-). When I wash a car on a hot day, I now run my windshield defroster on with the settings on 'cold' for a while before I wash the car in order to get the temperatures closer. Fun, eh?

The water I used was not cold, but the car was really hot sitting in the sun. I thought the dealership should replace it, but they said the best they can do is just charge me labor and that would be $160.00. I feel as though it is defective since the car is so new, I'm not sure if it is worth fighting them or not to replace it for free. The dealer is The Volvo Store in Winter Park, Fl.
