A/C needs power cycled to blow cold air
Upon starting the engine on a hot day with the climate system set to AUTO, the climate fan blows full blast, but only hot air comes out of the vents. Leaving the system set to AUTO with the hot air blowing, if the A/C button is switched to OFF, and then turn it back ON, cold air comes out and it will remain working for the remainder of the key cycle. Alternatively, with the same initial condition present (system on AUTO, hot air blowing out of the vents) if the ignition is cycled OFF, and the engine is immediately restarted, then the system blows cold air.
The problem doesn't happen every time we start the engine, but it seems to be happening more often lately.
Low refrigerant?
Compressor clutch issue? Note: With the hood open and a lamp, I still can't get a good view at the A/C compressor near the passenger-side wheel. Any advice on how to get a better look at it? We have a hoist at the office if needed.
Thanks!
