I want to replace my cabin filter because I don't know how old it is so I went looking to see where it is located and how to do it.

I was hoping that it would be easy like the V70

Apparently it is a crawl on the floor, twist, turn, pull and looks more of a pita than my S60.

It's a lot easier to just remove the accelerator pedal rather than try to fight around it.

 

Good idea. To the rescue again --- yay. Not going out to look but how hard is it to get the pedal off?

 

Yes, remove the accelerator. It is still a PITA but easier. There are 3 nuts holding the accelerator in place. I also remove the knee panel under the steering wheel. There are 3 screws that hold it in place. You will need to remove the panel just behind the center stack too. This just unsnaps. The reason I remove these is it gives a little more room but mainly so I can clean the air sensor for the climate control. It is snapped into the knee panel. Use a can of compressed air to gently blow the dust out. This can make a big difference in the function of the climate control.

 

Just three 10mm nuts. As long as the studs don't break free from the bracket, its not bad. If you have a 1/4" air ratchet that fits up there, its easier. Or 1/4" electric ratchet. I've also used my 3/8" cordless impact with an extension and 10mm swivel. Usually takes about 2 minutes for me so give yourself 20 if using hand tools.

 

What the heck! Early and I've only had one cup of coffee --- may not yet be in a good mood. But -- possibility of bolts breaking off, removing knee panels, gas pedals, etc. All this to replace a cabin filter? I lived many years without one and the reason I want to change the filter is because I read that a clogged filter lowers efficiency of AC.

It isn't that the job is a hateful job but the need to bend and fold to remove and install a filter seems to be bad engineering.

The V70 in the video of my original post is a much better engineered filter location. The only negative could be (maybe) the possibility of it getting wet easier?
