Cracked windshield in V50
Cracked windshield, the scratch is getting wider
How important is it that the replaced windshield be original?
Are there any highlights that should be noted before obtaining it?
Is there an option to obtain an S40 windshield from dismantling,
are they the same or should I look for another model that shares the same windshield in the V50?

really depends where you live - in many states, you'd fail a safety inspection with a crack longer than 6 inches (aka the dollar bill rule).
You didn't mention which year V50 but you can use a dealer web site to get the OEM part number and compatible models. For example for a 2010 V50 the glass is the same for 2010 to 2013 V50s, S40s and C30s from what I can tell but best to do your own research.
With that said, you may not find it that easy to remove install said glass and there's some tricks to keep it from leaking. Not sure where you are located, but most people in the US simply have their insurance cover it and go to a shop like Safelite which installs their own glass product at a reasonable price.
