Default Engaging gear problems

V50 1.6 drive e- 2015 - Today i got in my car and had a lot of difficulty getting in gear or changing gear. I can change 2-3 (not smooth) but other gears i need to stop, switch off and engage gear, then switch on again. When I start the engine in gear the car is trying to drive off with the clutch down. The clutch is clearly not clearing, so i assume to master cylinder is failing/ has failed. Are there any user serviceable actions to correct this e.g bleeding or is it an expensive trip to a garage?

to eliminate the obvious, make sure the floor mat is not restricting the clutch pedal travel. If you suspect air in the slave, start by looking for any signs of leakage. Is the brake fluid reservoir still full? Does it behave differently if you pump the clutch a few times before trying to engage?

Thanks for the reply. Diagnosis complete. It was the clutch pressure plate that had failed and stuck!
