Default Headlights - how do I control them?

Some mornings I arrive at the gym and it is still dark. I'll have several minutes until the gym opens and I want to leave the car running so that I can run the heater.

Now the problem is when the car is running the headlights stay on and the guy in the parking spot straight across from me, also waiting, probably doesn't like staring at headlights. I can turn the headlights off if I turn the **** 90 degrees and then only the parking lights are on -- which isn't too hurtful for the eyes of the guy across from me. But.........

I turn the motor off, go into the gym, do my workout and come to see that I have parking lights still turned on. Apparently the parking lights don't turn off when the key is switched to the off position.

What kind of set-up is the 2007 V50 headlight? Must I pay the big money to go to the dealer and have them turn off the DRL's. It is legal in my State to disable DRL's. Plus the light bulbs should last longer.
