Identifying BAD Wheel Hub bearings
Hey all,
I have been searching all over this site and finally figured that the SCREECHING/GRINDING/SQUEALING sound that I am getting from my 2006 V50 2.4 is a bad wheel hub bearing. The sound is intermittent but extremely loud. Brakes are fine, not a scratch on the rotors and the pads are still in decent shape.
How do I figure out which wheel is causing the issue? At $315 each assembly here at the "stealer" in Calgary, I don't want to go replacing them for nothing.
Also, it sounds like it is a relatively simple job for a DIY with some tools and skills.
Any help would be GREAT.
Thanks.
Brian

RE: Identifying BAD Wheel Hub bearings
Thanks Tech.
I jacked up each wheel and gave it a spin. The rears have a very minor rub (with the rear bias on these cars, not surprising that I will be changing the rears soon anyhow). Then I found the culprit wheel. The front passenger wheel was brutally loud. Removed the wheel, took a look at the brake pads, pads are fine, not a scratch on the front of the rotor. Tried to look at the back side of the rotor and that's where I noticed it, a rock was stuck between the rotor and the strut. Removed the rock and no more noise. Much cheaper than hub assemblies.
Thanks for the tip.
