Default Manual transmission fluid level correctness

Hello, I have Volvo V50 D2 6 speed model, and I dont know how to check the transmission fluid level.

So after driveshaft removal I lost some transmission oil, I dont know how many, I lost it on a garage floor.

So after it I drain the whole transmission, and try to refill by filling plug.

From manuals, and by google I have these informations
- My transmission is a B6 model, and it needs 1.6 litre of transmission oil.
- From another info, I must level the car, and top up by filler hole, while the oil starts to leak out.

I try the second method, I leveled the car and top up 2 litres of transmission oil by filler hole, but the oil cant leak out from filler hole. (The filler plug is in front of the transmission from the front side, a little bit higher than the drive shafts.)

So what is the correct amount of fluid?

The 1.6 litre info is good, and I must get out 0.4 litre of oil

or

I must fill more oil to reach the filler plug level.

What is the right amount of oil for that transmission?

you didnt mention the year, but the capacity is listed in the owners manual. I did a quick look and saw for a 2007 T5 with a manual trans the capacity is 2.1L.

Sorry, I have a 2011 model Volvo V50 D2 diesel with manual 6 speed transmission. VIN: YV1MW84E1B2622213

I have got an info from owners manual: https://az685612.vo.msecnd.net/pdfs/...EN_tp11698.pdf page 282.

And if I have B6 transmission (I do not know if this information is correct), than I need only 1.6 L for filling, but actually I filled 2 litres without any problem by filler plug (car is leveled), and the oil cant leak out from hole.

Don't have your car, but when I've needed to refill the oil on a manual transmission, I used the side oil fill port and pushed in enough gear oil to have it overflow back out. Don't know why your car would be any different. Only thing to look for is a compound drain plug (such as on my VW's DSG transmission) where there's an inner and outer drain plug. The inner plug is used to drain off excess oil, the outer is used to remove the overflow fill tube. you pull both out when draining the transmission, then insert the outer plug and fill from the top, then when it overflows, you install the inner plug and voila, you have the correct level (some of the newer Volvo automatics use this design as well). I'd bet your car is the simpler side port set's the level... If you have some doubts, why not call the dealer to confirm the correct oil spec and amount. (you can even use the pretense that you are looking to know how much oil to buy).

Hi!
Did you sort it out?
I myself am going to do this service tomorrow and will keep you updated on how I did.

I checked the transmission fill plug when I did a engine oil change a little while ago, and did reflect that the plug was sitting high up on the casing.

I still have 2litres of transmission oil in my B6 transmission. Oil cant leak out over filler plug, when filling. But I hope it is OK.

Transmission after a year a driving works without a problem.

p.s I have a plan to add more oil to transmission, for my safety. I think overfilling is not a problem for transmission like an engine oil overfilling, for example.

I changed both output axel seals yesterday and the updated ones from Volvo are way better quality than the original Ford ones mounted from the factory. I hope it will be dry and leak free now.

Regarding filling the transmission up with oil again. I ended up filling mine with 1.8 liters. According to VIDA the required amount of is 1.58 liters. So probably 1.6 is enough but it will not take it up level with the fill plug. I don’t think there is a problem with slightly overfilling it. As you have also proved with a year of driving.
