Default Mid range whine when cold

Hi
My 2005 V50 AWD started making a weird whining noise. It started out only when cold, but now does it on and off at any time, and is getting worse. I replaced the tensioner pulleys, which did nothing. It sounds like it's coming from the back of the engine, so maybe something to do with the turbo? When I got under the car last week, i did notice that the entire exhaust was free to move around, seeming to have the most freedom of motion towards the engine, which seemed Super odd to me, but this is my first turbo car and that may be normal.
any thoughts? Could it be the catalytic converter? The whine revs with the engine and is not very high pitched, Moe like if you open your mouth and say AAAAAaaa...

Get a mechanic's stethoscope and poke around on the likely mechanical sources of the noise.
