Default parking lights into running lights

Hello seems strange (since Volvo invented the running 'day' light) but here in oz the 05 v50 has no running lights you have to turn on your parking lights which stay on .. - anyone know how to change the fuses, so the parking lights can also be running lights i.e. turn on with ignition on.

The 2004.5+ S40/V50 normally came with the DRL enabled. However, some folks like to have them disabled because they don't like them or if they want to install an aftermarket HID kit. Enabling and disabling is done by Volvo service via a software load. If you want them enabled, go to Volvo service and they can enable them likely for a fee.

If your car has an HID kit then you may want to leave DRL disabled. These cars use the low beams a DLR. There is a day/night sensor which dims the low beam during the day to safe bulb life. This can mess with HID kits and even cause damage to the car's electricals (ie wiper motor - long story which you can google.)

Thanks but if i wanted the 'hid' headlights on I would turn on the headlights which turn on with the headlight switch and go off with the ignition.. I want the 'parking' lights on which stay on when the ignition is turned on ... hence the 'parking' light thing. As newb to this forum but his 8th or so volvo 5 or 6 being this generation s40 or v50 t5 I am not a noob. Truly appreciate any good guidance here - as volvo were the first to have day light running lights i.e. brighter then standard parking lights that went on with ignition my mum's brand new 244dl had it in 1975 .. seems weird to take it away when all the Audi's etc. are running around now led daylights now.

Sorry, I did not understand your desired configuration nor was I aware of your level of experience with these Volvos. Any change to the way that the lights behave would be via a software load or possibly by rewiring the system (though not recommended).

Oooooo! I have to check that out. I have a VIDA and DiCE, however, I know that the DLR's on the S40/V50 are by a software load and not a soft switch. There may be other functions that are soft-switch though.
