It is cold with a 18F temp and wind chill of 5F.

Went shopping with my wife and I noticed that the car was running a bit odd - rough at first. After about the third store, started the car, exited parking space and saw a CEL. Car wasn't showing any signs of rough running or anything that might worry me so we made two more stops and headed home.

Scan tool shows a PO 2187. I cleared the code and it didn't come back.

I haven't checked to see if the gas cap or oil cap are tight. If it is a PCV issue, I won't do the job, too cold and from what I read it is not a cheap job. As I have said on other occasions I am not a fan of the engineering on some Volvo PCV systems. To me it is over engineered. If 99% of the cars can run with the little valve going into the valve cover why did Volvo feel the need to create a nightmarish system of hoses and traps.

Oh well enough of complaining.

Is there anything else to look for?

 

code is saying you are lean at idle. could be a dirty MAF, temp sensor or air leak in the intake tubing/boots. Good thing is, your car won't feel the wind chill, just the temperature... :-)

 

Yes it is a lean situation but I'm trying to find the #1 culprit and if not that.....start down the list. The car has been driven for about 100 miles and no codes but cars don't heal them self. Or was it a situation of the quality of gas and the cold?

Very cold outside so I wasn't into doing an in depth check but I checked the bigger stuff like intake air tubes, tubes to turbo and they seemed nice and tight.

Time will tell or should I say my wife will surely tell me if the CEL illuminates.

 

quality of gas is not a likely cause - cold can make parts stiff so its plausible that could expose an air leak. 18F is not overly cold to a car - particularly if you are running the proper weight oil (I assume you are running full synthetic - so even a 5-30 is good down below 0F). I'd just check the gas cap and keep an eye open for any new codes and see if anything else is stored.

 

The car has gone for hundreds of commuting miles and no codes.
