Default should i buy?

Hi all,
I am looking at a 2006 V50 (2.4 non turbo) with 75k miles. I was just wondering what people's experiences have been and if they have been happy with their V50? Has it been reliable?

It currently has what sounds like the worst tire noise noise I have ever heard coming from the rear end. I am going to have someone look at it. Perhaps it could be wheel bearings? Are those known to fail early?

The alternator also already had to be replaced already which seems to be a bit early to me.

Thoughts?

Hi - I recently bought a 2005 V50 2.5T at 75K miles.

It's a lot smaller and not as comfy as 2005 XC70 I've had for 180K miles (and still going), but with a manual transmission, it's rather fun to drive.

My son is a new driver. Once he gets comfortable driving XC70, I plan to have him learn the stick on V50.

I haven't had it long enough (a few months) to say anything about reliability, but no indication that it won't be reliable. It's a fun car to drive. Not a luxury, comfy ride at all, though.

The waterfall panel has too many small buttons and very little storage room. Not a lot of space in the back of wagon either. I regret getting the cargo cover with the little tray. It's cumbersome and takes up too much room.

All in all, I can't think of a better car for my son - manual, safe, compact. It was a toss-up between this and a Subaru with MT for me.

On a 2006 I wouldn't be surprised that a wheel bearing needs replacing. I have had a couple done as well as front shocks (fortunately on warranty).
The rear trailing arms on these are fixed. I had mine changed for adjustables (again on warranty). Try driving down a quite read and gently steer from side to side. If it's a bearing the noise will increase and decrease as the car moves back and forth. If the noise is constant it could still be a bearing but may be something else.
In general I am very happy with the comfort and performance of my T5 AWD.
