So is it true the only roof racks for the V50 are the factory racks?

According to Thule, they cannot make a fit kit for this car which means my old rack is no good. I just want to make sure of this before I make a final decision.

Unfortunately nobody is making a roof rack to fit the V50. I have a 2006 and now have 3 different roof racks. I had to purchase the dealer rack as nobody (Thule or Yakima) has yet made any feet to fit the V50.

The only other option you have is to get the roof rails installed. (you know the ones that are on either side of the car and follow the entire length of the roof). Then you can install either a Thule or Yakima to the roof rails.

The only downside to the volvo rack is that it is rather narrow. So if you have a roof box on top, it makes it tough to fit other stuff up there too.
