So i just got a V50 T5 AWD

according to what i read this model with the 6 speed manual all have turbos.

I would like to get a k&n filter for it cause they have been so good in other cars that i have owned. I hear that there may be an issue with k&n filters letting stuff other than air through thereby eventually wrecking the turbo... anyone know anything about this?

what filter would yall recommend?

 

Some particulate does get by as seen in oil analysis. This is true for all cars using the K&N type of filter. I have never heard of any turbos being damaged though. The factory airbox and filter are actually quite good. Some have said that even the performance intake systems offer little benefit over the stock system. It may if there are other performance mods.

I am presently running a K&N panel filter but can't say that it made much difference in performance or fuel economy, which I monitor closely. I may go back to the Volvo panel for peace of mind.

I'm going back to a paper filter after hearing about K&Ns fouling MAF sensors in certian cars, not just Volvos.

 

The issue with the MAF sensor is caused by applying too much oil to the filter medium. They can be used safely if properly oiled. However, as I mentioned, I didn't really notice any significant benefit with the K&N panel.

 

Was the Volvo V50 discontinued all over the world or just in the US?
I've been curious about this for a while. I own a Volvo V50 and I absolutely love it. Afterwords, I found out it was discontinued in 2011. But was it discontinued all over or just the United States? Will it come out again and why was it discontinued?

 

How do you remove the grill of a Volvo V50?
HELP! A bird has managed to get stuck behind the grill of our Volvo V50, and we cannot seem to get the grill off for the bird to get out. Any ideas?
