Default V50 help

My 2005 volvo v50 will not turn off after I take the key out. In order for me to turn the car off i have to disconnect the battery and turn the steering wheel. Has anyone had this issue.

I wish I had a good Volvo manual (or, that one existed!) but it's gotta be either the ignition "switch" itself, or a relay that's activated by turning the key on. With a wiring diagram it would be pretty simple to troubleshoot (well, other than having to tear part of your dash apart, that is...).

If it's the ignition switch (the bit you put the key into) you might get lucky by just cycling it back and forth 10 times quickly. Even if that doesn't "fix" it permanently, if it changes the behavior you'll know what's wrong. Otherwise, I'd suspect a sticky relay - or a short somewhere that puts 12 volts on a line that keeps the car running. Does everything BUT the engine go off when you turn the key off?

Yes. If I don't disconnect the battery I can keep driving without the key in ignition. When I disconnect battery it will still run until I touch the steering wheel.
