Loving my v50
I just purchased a 2007 v50, non-turbo. I am really enjoying this car. Given the activity on this forum and not even knowing about the v50 prior to looking at my car, I can only assume it is fairly rare, at least in the Southeastern United States. Are they generally rare in the US and elsewhere?

Thanks, I will check out the battery. I haven't even the Haynes manual yet (I don't know if Bentley publishes one for the V50) I want to change the oil to synthetic (Mobile 1, 0W-40W, will price out Amsoil). I have never dealt with the canister type oil filter. What is up with that? How do I change it and the oil?

I like the oil filter. There is less waste going into the environment and you can inspect the filter element for debris. To change it you will need to remove the air intake snorkel that goes into the air filter box (2 bolts). You will need a ratchet wrench with extensions, a universal and special socket http://www.ipdusa.com/version.asp?st...=415&V_ID=2726
You may be able to find them cheaper.
To get to the oil drain plug, you will have to remove the plastic cover that is under the engine compartment. This all sounds complicated but it really is quite ease.

If one scratches one's head long enough, one can figure anything out. But why re-invent the wheel? I want to change my oil on the '07 v50 I just purchased. I get dropping plastic pan from the bottom. I am sure I can find the drain plug on the pan. I see where the filter goes. I found a 36mm socket at the corner parts store and a special tool at ipdusa. I guess that is six of one and a half dozen of the other -- both would probably work. I presume the top to the oil filter comes of counter clockwise I take the old out and put the new in. Where does the gasket go? Does it go on the lid or elsewhere? Do I put any oil in with the new filter? or does all oil go into the oil filler after the filter is in place? I am looking for a few more detailed pointers to make changing the oil for the first time a little more easy.
Thanks,
John

ok John, here it is...
1st, remove the oil filler cap and pull the dipstick up, this is my personal preference.
2nd, remove any air inlet tubes to access 36mm oil filter cap,
3rd, UNSCREW oil filter cap all the way, but DO NOT REMOVE,
4th, remove pan under engine, and remove drain plug, 17mm, let drain
5th, install new washer on drain plug and install till crushed, install cover.
6th, REMOVE oil filter cap and discard filter, and O-RING on cap, make note of location.
7th, install o-ring on cap, lubed, place filter in HOUSING, snug, then install cap.
8th, install other parts taken off, fill with oil, 6 qts, secure everything.
