Which Valve Spring Compressor?
What is a "S4" head?
If you really want to be able to remove your valves - and it's a Volvo aluminum head with DOHC from ~1992 - present - you will need the lower picture. The valve springs are recessed and you will need an extension as pictured to be able to depress the spring and remove the keepers (to be able to get the springs off and the valves out)
BTY - changing your valves stem seals is NOT going to reduce your oil usage! (if that's why you are seeking this solution!)

Thank you. for this advice . . We are Overhauling an Un Know Volvo V50 which needs a Head Gasket Replaced so while the Head is Off, we are doing the Valve seals at the same time. just to renew them
Not all machine shops have that capability - you should find one that does. When a head is straightened the valves have to come out and be completely reworked. So you might want to do it right the first time and have a knowledgeable machine shop do all the head work.
Have you figured out how you are going to check/adjust the valves?
Thank you for your reply. I have ben around engines for over 40 years. My question was more aimed as to which compressor to use on a Volvo Head as I have not had to work on a Volvo till now (thank you Wife)/ so Yes I am fully aware of what to do and how to go about getting it all back together and up and running. I have a qualified machine shop about an hour away from home. as for the Valves Calliper to check the thickness , Flat steel ruler to check for straightness, and then check each valve seat and Grind in till I see a Matt finish with Valve Lapping Paste and Tool set. so all is good. cheers
