Default Wheel(?) noise, regular rhythm increases with speed

My V50 has just started making a noise as though something is sticking out of the tyre and hitting the bodywork/road on every revolution.
The noise increases in volume and frequency (i.e. happens more often) with speed.
Can't be sure that it is coming from the wheel/tyre though.

Not affected by gear and doesn't stop when in neutral.

Happens in straight line as well as cornering.

Any ideas?!
