Default 01 V70 Engine Mounts

I have a couple of questions:

Are the front and rear mounts (#5 in the diagram) hydraulic, and if so, are they a pain to change like the older models where you have to lift the engine up high to get them out?

My second question is, is the passenger side lower engine mount (#1 in the diagram) easy to change? It doesn't look like anything needs to be done to the engine to change it.

Thanks!

Yes 5 is hydraulic and a PITA to change.
Number 1 is pretty easy to change.

If you need to change the upper engine mount, I would go with the Volvo OEM unit instead of the after-market urethane one. A few months ago an independent Volvo repair shop put in the after-market one, and the vibration was pretty bad in the steering wheel and on the dash when coming up to a stop position........that's where it vibrated. I decided to install a new Volvo OEM part myself (took me two hours with the tools I have.......had to remove the cross bar to get to the bolts) but the vibration is 100% improvement. My new Volvo mechanic suggests using the Volvo OEM unit, which has the gromet made of rubber, to better handle the engine vibration issue even if they don't last as long as the urethane after-market unit.

Tell me about it. I bought those blue IPD poly bushings and washers for the upper mount bar brackets. I had to cut some of the lining off since they wont fit in the 01 brackets but with that little modification and tightening the bolts to an insane amount, there is a significant increase in stability just with that little adjustment, but the engine vibration also started. It's not that bad though. Most of the time it's barely noticable unless you have a heavy load on the engine.

I do have the OEM Volvo rubber mount, but the newer design one, not the original bad one. I'm leaving it the way it is. If the vibration is as bad as you say, I'd rather not add to it. I do have the stronger front trans IPD torque mount on order. I have a newer OEM one I bought with the car, but I want to beef it up a bit.

I'll let you know what affect, if any, that has on everything. There's just a bit of a new hiccup when going from coasting to accelerating that I'm trying to figure out. I'd rather start with the easy stuff first and try to avoid those hydraulic replacements. I figure just replace the ones I can now and prolong or prevent that hard ones.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what's a PITA?

If you do this can you do a writeup? The front one on mine is leaking too.

I would but it doesn't look like I need to replace anything.

I checked the hydraulic mounts yesterday and they are both fine. I also checked the pass. side mount and that is also in great condition, so it doesn't look like I'll be replacing them.

My IPD performance trans torque mount should be coming sometime next week so once I install that, I'll create a new thread about results.

Hi. I know this is an old post but could someone tell me what is the diagram you're relating to and where I can find it.

Cheers

It referred to something like this:Engine mounting 5CYL 2WD. Fits: 2001 Volvo 2.4l 5 cylinder | VolvoPartsWebstore.com
IPD also had a diagram at one time, also check FCP.
